Understanding Law of Time / Dreamspell
The Dreamspell, part of the wider Law of Time project, is a modern calendar system created by José Argüelles and Lloydine Argüelles in 1990. It presents a thirteen-month, twenty-eight-day year alongside a 260-day count of twenty solar seals and thirteen galactic tones, from which each person receives a “galactic signature” or kin number based on their birth date.
The vocabulary borrows from the Maya tzolkʼin, the 260-day ritual count still used by Maya day-keepers in Guatemala and Mexico. The Dreamspell, however, uses a different day-correlation and adds symbolism and a calendar-reform philosophy that are the Argüelleses’ own. Traditional Maya calendar specialists and Mayanist scholars generally treat it as a separate modern system.
People explore Dreamspell for its rhythmic approach to time — the idea that a thirteen-moon calendar tracks natural cycles more evenly than the Gregorian year — and for the bright, memorable imagery of its seals and tones.
How Birth Mosaic Uses It
This is a calculated chapter based on your birth date alone. Birth Mosaic labels it clearly as a modern framework and does not describe your signature as a traditional Maya day-sign — those are counted differently by living Maya calendar keepers.
What You May Discover
- The galactic signature the Dreamspell assigns to your birth date
- Solar seal imagery and the qualities it is said to carry
- What a galactic tone contributes to that reading
- A thirteen-moon way of thinking about the year
- How this modern system differs from the traditional Maya tzolkʼin
Key Concepts
- Galactic signature
- The seal-and-tone combination the Dreamspell assigns to a birth date.
- Solar seal
- One of twenty symbols such as Dragon, Wind, or Star used in the 260-day count.
- Galactic tone
- A number from one to thirteen said to describe the quality of movement or intent.
- Kin
- One of the 260 seal-and-tone combinations, numbered 1 to 260.
- Thirteen Moon calendar
- The proposed 13 x 28 day year plus one 'day out of time'.
A Simple Example
Example: a date that resolves to “Tone 4, Yellow Seed” would be described through the seed image — planting, patience, potential — with tone four adding structure and definition. This is an illustration of how a signature is phrased.
Keep in Mind
Dreamspell is a modern adaptation created in 1990, not an inherited Maya practice. Contemporary Maya communities maintain their own calendar traditions with a different day correlation, and Birth Mosaic keeps that distinction explicit out of respect for those living practices.
